The first recorded meeting of the North West Mounted Police [NWMP] ex-member took place in Calgary on April 18th, 1886 at the town hall with twenty four (24) ex-members attending. The first recorded dinner of ex-members took place at the Royal hotel Calgary on November 4, 1886.
After some set backs, the NWMP Veterans Association, as it was then known, began to grow and spread to other cities. In 1954 the association name was changed to the RCMP Veterans' Association. Calgary was the association head quarters for many years until 1965 when it was moved to Ottawa, the head quarters of the Force.
Edmonton Division of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Veterans' Association was granted its charter on January 01, 1992. The stated purpose of the Edmonton Division Vets Canteen is to operate the gift shop on a non-profit basis, with the proceeds from sales assisting in the support RCMP Community Policing Programs and events throughout the Province.
In 2007 the Edmonton Division of the RCMP Veterans Association donated over $8,000.00 to RCMP Community Policing Programs. This is over and above the money that was given to the Mounted Police Foundation. Through your support and the commitment of the Edmonton Division Veterans, worthy causes throughout the Province will receive continued support.
